Yashasvi Jaiswal continues his red-hot form in Test cricket. The southpaw smashed 57 runs off 58 balls during India’s first innings against England in Dharamshala to smash numerous records. Batting with great confidence, Jaiswal scored at a strike rate of 98.28. His blitzkrieg also included three sixes that he hit in only one over of England spinner Sohaib Bashir. After Ravichandran Ashwin and Kuldeep Yadav shared 9 wickets among them to bundle out England for 218, Jaiswal and captain Rohit Sharma dominated the guests before the southpaw lost his wicket to Bashir.
Here are the record broken by Jaiswal –
– Jaiswal is the first India batter in 45 years to score 700 or more runs in a Test series. Overall, he is only the second India batter after Sunil Gavaskar to score 700 or more runs in a Test series.
– He has surpassed Virat Kohli on the list of India batters with most runs vs England in a Test series. Jaiswal holds the top spot with 712 runs to his name in the series so far.
– With 26 sixes in nine innings, Jaiswal further extended his record of hitting most maximums in a Test series. Rohit trails him with 19 sixes against South Africa in 2019-20.
Meanwhile, Jaiswal also became the second fastest India batter to 1000 Test runs. He achieved the feat in 16 innings. Jaiswal is only behind Vinod Kambli, who scored 100 Test runs in 14 innings.
22 years, 70 days old Jaiswal is now the fourth youngest batter to cross the 1000 runs in the Test mark and joined the elite list of legends like Sachin Tendulkar (19Y, 217D), Kapil Dev (21Y, 27D), Ravi Shastri (21Y, 197D), and Dilip Vengsarkar (22Y, 293D).
