Raipur 29 December 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing the country in the 117th episode of Mann Ki Baat on Sunday, praised the Bastar Olympics-2024 organized by the Chhattisgarh government under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai. Modi said that a new revolution is taking birth in Bastar with the first Bastar Olympics. It is a matter of great happiness for me that the dream of Bastar Olympics has come true. This Olympics is being held in the area which was once a witness to Maoist violence. Modi said that the mascot of Bastar Olympics is the wild buffalo and the hill myna – it reflects the rich culture of Bastar. The motto of this Bastar Khel Mahakumbh is, ‘Karasay ta Bastar, Barsay ta Bastar’ i.e. Bastar will play, Bastar will win. While praising the Bastar Olympics-2024, Prime Minister Modi said that for the first time, one lakh 65 thousand players from 7 districts of Bastar division have participated in the Bastar Olympics. This is not just a figure but a proud story of the determination of the youth. Our youth have waved the flag of their talent in every game including athletics, archery, badminton, football, hockey, weightlifting, karate, kabaddi, kho-kho and volleyball.
Prime Minister Modi also mentioned the enthusiasm of the participants of Bastar Olympics in Mann Ki Baat. Referring to Kari Kashyap of Bastar, he said that Kari ji, who comes from a small village, has won a silver medal in archery, she says that Bastar Olympics has given us an opportunity to move forward in life, not just a playground. Prime Minister Modi said that the words of Payal Kawasi ji of Sukma are no less inspiring. Payal ji, who won the gold medal in javelin throw, says that with discipline and hard work, no goal in life is impossible.
Prime Minister Modi described the story of Punem Sanna, who lives in Dornapal of Bastar, as an inspirational story of the new India and said that Punem ji, who was once under the influence of Naxalites, is today winning medals by running on a wheelchair. His courage and determination is an inspiration for everyone. Archer Ranju Sori ji of Kondagaon has been chosen as the Bastar Youth Icon. He believes that Bastar Olympics is giving the youth of remote areas an opportunity to reach the national stage. Bastar Olympics is not just a sports event, it is a platform where development and sports are confluenced, where our youth are honing their talent and building a new India. Prime Minister Modi praised the organization of Bastar Olympics and said that such events need to be promoted. He called for encouraging such sports events and giving opportunities to local sports talents to progress. Sports not only leads to physical development, but it is also a strong and effective medium to connect the society by developing sportsmanship.
