Raipur, 07 May 2025: A big announcement was made for Chhattisgarh today in the Union Cabinet meeting held in New Delhi under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. With the expansion of the campus of IIT Bhilai, new facilities will be available for technical education and research. Apart from this, now more students will get a chance to study in IIT Bhilai. Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai has expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the announcement made regarding the expansion of IIT Bhilai. He has said that this is another big step towards the goal of Prime Minister Modi’s developed India and developed Chhattisgarh.

It is noteworthy that the Union Cabinet has approved the expansion of the academic and infrastructure of five new IIT institutes of the country, including IIT Bhilai of Chhattisgarh. With the decision of the Union Cabinet, in the coming four years, more than 6,500 students from across the country will be able to fulfill their dream of studying in prestigious institutions. The special thing is that IIT Bhilai will now have more seats, which will benefit the youth of Chhattisgarh as well as other parts of the country. This decision will not only benefit the students along with the expansion of the infrastructure of IIT Bhilai Campus, but will also create new employment opportunities at the local level. Along with the recruitment of teachers, staff and researchers, the demand for housing, transportation and other services in the surrounding areas will also increase.

IIT Bhilai is already functioning in its permanent campus, but after this expansion, this institute will now become a center of education and innovation for even more students. It is worth mentioning that in four years, 13,687 seats will be available for students across the country, which are currently 7,111. This means that 6,576 new seats will be added. The Indian Institutes of Technology in the country, which have been approved for expansion of academic and infrastructure capacity, include IITs of Bhilai as well as Andhra Pradesh (Tirupati), Jammu and Kashmir (Jammu), Karnataka (Dharwad) and Kerala (Palakkad). The central government has approved a budget of Rs 11,828.79 crore for their expansion, which will be spent from the year 2025-26 to 2028-29. Under this, not only new buildings and modern facilities will be built, but 130 new professor posts will also be created, which will further strengthen the level of studies and research. Five new state-of-the-art research parks are also being built to strengthen industry-academic relations.
