Raipur, 24 March 2025: President of India Smt. Draupadi Murmu today participated in the silver jubilee celebrations of Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly and congratulated the people of the state on 25 years of democratic journey and praised the excellent parliamentary traditions of the Legislative Assembly. President Smt. Murmu described the establishment of Chhattisgarh state as the result of the extraordinary guidance of late Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji and paid respectful tribute to him. She said that the democratic journey of Chhattisgarh is an inspiring example of the expression of public aspirations. Sharing the memories of her MLA period, she said that working as a public representative is a privilege for persons inspired by the spirit of public service. She described the Legislative Assembly as a carrier of culture and a center for policy making. Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly: Symbol of Exemplary Parliamentary Conduct President Smt. Draupadi Murmu praised the disciplined and dignified traditions followed by the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly. She especially praised rules like ‘suspension by default’ and called it historic that in 25 years, the marshals never had to be used in the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly.
President Smt. Murmu described Chhattisgarh as a living symbol of mother power and paid homage to the cultural dignity of the state. Remembering Chhattisgarh’s female personality Mini Mata, she paid homage to her contribution. She also appreciated the fact that today there are 19 women MLAs in the Legislative Assembly and the number of women voters in the state has been more than men. The President called upon the women MLAs to play a leading role in empowering other women of the state. She appealed to bring the spirit of ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Act’ to the ground. Chhattisgarh’s policies towards an inclusive society President Smt. Murmu described the 565 bills passed by the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly as historic in the direction of inclusive development. Especially mentioning the Act that frees women from harassment based on stereotypes, she described it as an important contribution of the Legislative Assembly during the tenure of Dr. Raman Singh ji.
President Smt. Draupadi Murmu said that Chhattisgarh, a state rich in natural resources and full of possibilities, has immense possibilities of development. She said that the state has a vast possibility of development in the mineral, industrial and agricultural sectors. She stressed on the need for balance between environmental protection and development. She said that the traditional folk crafts here are appreciated in the country and abroad. This beautiful state is rich in lush green forests, waterfalls and other natural boons. Chhattisgarh is blessed with rivers like Mahanadi, Hasdeo, Indravati and Shivnath. Along with moving ahead on the path of modern development, Chhattisgarh also has to ensure environmental protection. All of you policy makers of the state have the responsibility to establish a balance between development and nature. Along with this, it is also the responsibility of all public representatives to connect all sections of the society with the modern development journey.
Decisive progress towards freedom from left wing extremism President Smt. Draupadi Murmu said that the work of connecting the people affected by left wing extremism in Chhattisgarh with the mainstream of society has reached its final and decisive stage. People of Naxal-affected areas of Chhattisgarh want to move ahead on the path of development. He expressed confidence that the efforts to completely free Chhattisgarh from extremism will soon be successful and a golden chapter will be added to the history of the state. The key to social harmony: ‘Mankhe-Mankhe Ek Saman’ Quoting Guru Ghasidas ji’s message ‘Mankhe-Mankhe Ek Saman’, the President spoke of building an ideal Chhattisgarh of social equality and harmony. Describing the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly as an ideal democratic institution, President Murmu wished for the bright future of the state and called upon all public representatives to work with a spirit of dedication to build a better Chhattisgarh.
Governor Ramen Deka described the dignified presence of President Smt. Draupadi Murmu at the Silver Jubilee celebrations as unique and inspiring and heartily welcomed her on behalf of the people of the state. Remembering Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji, he said that the creation of Chhattisgarh state was the result of his visionary leadership and deep understanding of people’s aspirations. He informed that the year 2025 has been declared by the state government as ‘Atal Nirman Year’, in which infrastructure development will be given top priority. Governor Deka described the 25-year journey of Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly as a journey of pride and honour. The Governor described the ‘spontaneous suspension’ rule adopted by the Assembly as a wonderful example of discipline and adherence to democratic norms. He presented it as a model for the Legislative Assemblies of the whole country, which has been appreciated across the nation.
He said that Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly is a platform to give concrete form to the aspirations of the people. The Governor appreciated the policies and programmes of the Assembly, which empowered the state socially, economically and culturally. He informed that continuous efforts for rehabilitation and development in Naxal-affected areas are being successful in connecting the tribal communities of Bastar region with the mainstream.
The journey from mineral wealth to becoming an industrial power The Governor said that while describing Chhattisgarh as the country’s leading steel and energy producing state, he attributed this achievement to the visionary leadership of the state. The Governor informed that there are 19 women MLAs in the current assembly, which is 21.11 percent of the total members. He described it as the best example of women empowerment and appreciated the increasing role of women in the state. Paying homage to the historical, cultural and spiritual heritage of Chhattisgarh, he remembered many great men, prominent among whom are Mata Shabari, Guru Ghasidas, Swami Vivekananda, Veer Narayan Singh, Minimata etc. He also said that the important years of Swami Vivekananda’s teenage life were spent in Chhattisgarh, which contributed to his spiritual development. He said that the silver jubilee year gives us a new energy, and it should be our collective resolve to take the state forward as a developed Chhattisgarh with equal opportunities, all-round prosperity and cultural dignity while maintaining the identity of Chhattisgarhiya Sable Badhiya.
