New Shop And Establishment Act: New Direction Of Economic Empowerment

Ease of doing business and employment will be promoted, state revenue will increase

Raipur 20 February 2025: The new Shop and Establishment Act implemented by the Chhattisgarh government is getting widespread support from the business world and citizens. This historic decision will significantly contribute to increasing employment opportunities, smooth conduct of business activities as well as strengthening the economic condition of the state. In particular, allowing shops to operate without time limit will make business convenient for businessmen and consumers will also get better facilities. However, this Act will not apply to liquor shops. Business and employment prospects will get new momentum This decision of the government is a revolutionary step to promote ease of doing business. The new rules have ensured relief to small shopkeepers, simplicity in the registration process, and better protection of the rights of employees. Already registered shops will have to apply to obtain Labor Identification Number (LIN) within 6 months, but no additional fee will be charged for this. If the application is made after 6 months, the fee will be mandatory as per the rules. Freedom to operate shops 24 hours a day Under the new Act, traders will now be free to open their shops 24 hours a day, seven days a week. However, this decision will depend entirely on the wishes of the traders. This initiative will increase business activities, which will create new employment opportunities and strengthen the state’s economy.

According to the old system, it was mandatory to keep the shop closed one day a week, but now this restriction has been removed. However, the government has ensured that employees are given weekly leave and no employee is made to work for more than 8 hours. Protection of workers’ rights priority Along with giving business freedom, the government has also taken special care of the protection of workers’ rights. Shopkeepers will have to compulsorily follow all the provisions related to labor welfare. Under this, provision of weekly leave will be mandatory, no employee will be made to work for more than 8 hours and compliance of labor welfare schemes will have to be ensured. A strong step towards economic empowerment, this Act gives new dimensions to the economic activities of the state as well as provides maximum freedom and convenience to the traders. Its effective implementation will not only increase business dynamism in Chhattisgarh but will also increase the state’s revenue. This move by the Chhattisgarh government is not only a major reform for business and industry but also lays the foundation for a strong and inclusive economic system.
