Mahtari Vandan Yojana: A New Path To Economic Empowerment

Scheme becomes a boon for Kamar tribal women of Sirpur

Journey from financial crisis to self-reliance

Raipur 28 February 2025: The basic objective of good governance is to bring the light of development to the last person of the society. When a policy or scheme reaches the deprived sections of the society effectively, it affects not only one person but the entire community. One such initiative “Mahatari Vandan Yojana” has shown a new path of economic independence and empowerment to the Kamar tribal women of Sirpur area of Mahasamund district. Mrs. Kenvara Kamar, a resident of Sirpur, was earlier dependent on traditional bamboo craft work. This was her main source of livelihood, but her business had come to a standstill due to financial crisis. Due to limited resources and competition in the market, it was becoming difficult for her to survive. But after receiving assistance of Rs 1000 per month from the Department of Women and Child Development, her life took a new turn. With this financial support, she started buying bamboo, rope and other necessary materials. Her business is running well again, and now she is able to give better education to her children.

Similarly, Bhamini Goswami, a resident of Sirpur, is taking advantage of this scheme to shape the future of her daughter Tansi Goswami. She is depositing the assistance amount of Rs 1000 received every month in Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana. This small saving is becoming a strong financial support for her daughter, which will prove helpful in her higher education and marriage in future. Bhamini says, “Earlier we did not have enough savings to think about our daughter’s future, but Mahtari Vandan Yojana has given us the opportunity to give our children a safe and bright future.” Mahtari Vandan Yojana is not just a financial assistance scheme, but it is also becoming the basis of women’s empowerment. This scheme is no less than a boon especially for women of remote and tribal areas.
