BS Yediyurappa’s office has rubbished the charges and allegations (File)
New Delhi:
Former Karnataka Chief Minister and BJP leader BS Yediyurappa has been charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for allegedly sexually assaulting a teen girl.
The police in Bengaluru’s Sadashivanagar charged the senior BJP leader based on a complaint made by the mother of the 17-year-old girl.
According to sources in the police, the girl was allegedly sexually assaulted on February 2 when she and her mother visited the 81-year-old leader to seek assistance in a cheating case.
The FIR mentioned that the senior BJP leader allegedly sexually assaulted the girl after dragging her into a room, reported news agency ANI. When she managed to run out, she told her mother about the alleged assault.
Mr Yediyurappa’s office has rubbished the charges and allegations and released a list of cases filed by the complainant in the past. There are 53 different complaints on the list.
The leader’s office has dismissed the complaint, insinuating that the teen has a habit of filing complaints.
BS Yediyurappa served as Karnataka Chief Minister for seven days in 2007. He then had the top job in the state from 2008 to 2011, for three days in May 2018, and then from July 2019 to July 2021.
