Raipur 22 April 2025: Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai said that the state government is fully alert to deal with the drinking water crisis in the summer season and it is being closely monitored. He informed that under the instructions given earlier for the repair of hand pumps in the state, work has been done rapidly and so far the repair of 11,238 hand pumps has been completed through 86 mobile units. He told the officials that wherever complaints related to drinking water are being received, immediate solution should be ensured there. Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai held an in-depth review meeting of the Public Health Engineering Department in Mahanadi Bhawan, Mantralaya today and gave necessary guidelines to the officials on important issues like availability of drinking water, groundwater level, progress of Jal Jeevan Mission and water conservation in the state. Chief Minister Sai directed to take necessary action regarding opening the Chief Engineer Regional Office of PHE department in Surguja. He directed to solve the problems by taking immediate action on the applications received during “Sushasan Tihar”.

Chief Minister Sai said that Jal Jeevan Mission is an ambitious scheme of the Central Government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken a big resolution to provide tap water to every household. He directed the officials to complete the remaining works of Jal Jeevan Mission within the time limit. He also reviewed the action plan of Jal Jeevan Mission for the coming years. Sai said that along with the development blocks affected by the fall in groundwater level, a list of villages without water source should also be prepared, so that effective steps can be taken to overcome it. Sai expressed concern about 10 development blocks of 6 districts facing groundwater crisis and said that the water crisis will have to be dealt with by making short-term and long-term plans. He talked about promoting water conservation techniques like recharge pits and rainwater harvesting and directed to take strict action against uncontrolled groundwater exploitation. The Chief Minister directed the Agriculture, Water Resources, Panchayat and Rural Development and Forest departments to widely publicize water conservation campaigns like “Catch the Rain” during Sushasan Tihar with mutual coordination. He appealed to the people of the state that water is the basis of life and we should all give top priority to its conservation. Deputy Chief Minister Arun Saw, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Subodh Singh, Secretary to Chief Minister Rahul Bhagat, Secretary to Chief Minister Mukesh Bansal, Secretary of Public Health Engineering Department Mohammad Abdul Qaiser Haq, Director Jal Jeevan Mission Jitendra Shukla and officials of Public Health Engineering Department were present in the meeting.
