Raipur. ITM University Raipur organized an inter college/university level two day badminton tournament ITM Badminton Cup 2024 on 15 and 16 March, Friday and Saturday with great enthusiasm and sportsmanship at Naya Raipur Based ITM Badminton Academy. The event witnessed a total of 21 participants in the Singles category and nine participants in the Doubles category, representing 13 colleges and universities of Chhattisgarh State. The participant universities & colleges are Amity University, CMD College Bilaspur, IIIT Naya Raipur, ITM University Raipur, MATS University, Pragati College, Rungta College of Engineering and Technology, Bhilai, Rungta College of Engineering and Technology, Raipur, Vipra College, BIT, Durg, Shri Rawatpura Sarkar University, Anjaneya University and Netaji College. In the Singles category, Aditya Ranjan Gupta from ITM University emerged as the champion, showcasing exceptional skill and sportsmanship.
Sangeet Mishra, also from ITM University Raipur, displayed commendable performance and secured the runner-up position.
The Doubles category saw intense competition, with Kanishka Gandhi and Varun Kumar Jain from MATS University clinching the top spot. Aditya Ranjan Gupta and Ansh Kukreja from ITM University Raipur demonstrated remarkable teamwork and secured the runner-up position.
The inaugural program was graced by esteemed Chief Guests, Mr. Ashutosh Singh, Director of Holy Hearts Educational Academy, and Ms. Harshita Pandey, Ex-chairperson of the State Women Commission, CG Government. In welcome address, Director General Ms. Lakshmi Murthy enthusiastically encouraged the students, expressing her pride in ITM University’s upcoming plans for numerous tournaments. She announced the exciting prospect of a summer camp for students, inter-corporate tournaments, and inter-school competitions to be organized in the near future at the Badminton academy. Director General highlighted ITM Badminton Academy is accredited by Khelo India and known as the largest badminton academy in central India with the aim to promote education with sports. The academy has 50 residential students who play badminton tournaments at national and international level. Two of the students Aditya Gupta and Sangeet Mishra are students at ITM University Raipur and are being trained at the academy under the supervision of Director of the Academy Mr. Sanjay Mishra at Naya Raipur.
Registrar Mr. Saurav Chatterjee, Heads of University Teaching department and faculty members were present during the program.
In the prize distribution ceremony, Joint Registrar Mr. Vikas Bhonsale extended vote of thanks to Director General Ms. Lakshmi Murthy for the invaluable support and approval of the 1st ITM Badminton Cup 2024. He also acknowledged Director of CSR & International Relations Ms. Pallavi Magoo for her unwavering support for execution of the badminton tournament.
The tournament was well coordinated by event in charge Professor Arijit Goswami and Mr. Manu Prakash Mishra with the support of Mr. Barun and the entire team of the ITM Badminton Academy.
