Delhi Capitals (DC) all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has been ruled out of the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 due to an injury. DC head coach Ricky Ponting, while responding to a query from NDTV, confirmed the development. Marsh continues to recover from a right hamstring niggle, having flown back to Australia on April 12 to consult Cricket Australia’s medical staff. While the franchise didn’t rule the player out completely, Ponting has now confirmed that the player won’t be rejoining the squad.

“I don’t think he’ll be coming back. There’s a certain cut off point with replacement players. Cricket Australia were keen to have him at home to start his recovery process and we sent him back as soon as we could,” Ponting said while responding to a query from NDTV.

With Marsh expected to lead Australia at the upcoming T20 World Cup, Ponting also opened up on the all-rounder’s participation in the tournament.

“They’ve been managing his rehab for a couple of weeks now. I spoke to him the other day and it seems it’s taken a little longer than he first thought to get over it. I don’t think the T20 World Cup would be an issue,” he added.

Marsh played only four games for DC this season, scoring 61 in three innings with a high score of 23. He also picked just one wicket during the same period.

This is the second successive season where DC have lost Marsh’s services midway during the season. He had also played just nine games last season before an injury disrupted his campaign.

DC are currently eighth on the points table with three wins from a possible eight. They will now take on Gujarat Titans at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday.
